Promotional Products for Children

At 4imprint, we pay extra attention and care to those items being distributed to children. Conformity to regulations and standards managed by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) must be verified by our product safety compliance team before any item can be sold.

Specific regulations exist for apparel, toys, and more general children's products to ensure that the different risks are assessed and tested for.

Children's Toy Safety

To ensure children's toys are safe, all toys approved for distribution and marketing at 4imprint must meet the requirements of the Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) which requires testing to the ASTM F963 standard. This standard requires testing of products on an annual basis for flammability, sharp points, small parts, and harmful chemicals such as lead and phthalates.

The standard sometimes requires warning statements to inform customers and recipients of any risks. You will always see those warnings, such as those found on balloons, on our website or catalogs so you are aware before you purchase. The regulation also requires tracking information and codes to be affixed to each product or its packaging.

Children's Apparel

Children's apparel must comply with several federal standards, all of which are verified before sale at 4imprint. This includes meeting flammability standards as mandated by 16 CFR 1610 and ensuring accessories such as zip pullers and buttons meet the Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) limits for lead.

We verify that there are no drawcords in upper body garments such as hoodies and jackets in line with Federal standard 16 CFR 1120 and at 4imprint have also voluntarily extended that rule to lower body garments such as sweatpants and shorts. The regulation also requires tracking information and codes to be affixed to each product or its packaging.

Children's Products

The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) sets mandatory limits for harmful chemicals such as lead or phthalates in children's products. A children's product would be an item that is not a toy or apparel but is still by size and/or style targeted specifically for children – an example might be a baby blanket, some fun child-orientated stickers, or a coloring book. The regulation also requires tracking information and codes to be affixed to each product or its packaging.

Art Materials

This regulation specifically tests materials and chemicals used in art materials such as the crayons and colored pencils sold at 4imprint to ensure they present no harm to health. A toxicological review and laboratory test take place as part of the test to confirm all materials are safe. You will always find the phrase 'Conforms to ASTM D-4236' printed on the item or its packaging to confirm conformance.
