Weaving a safety message into your promotions

editor's note

In this newsletter, we'll explore some fun and effective ways to remind your staff and customers about the importance of staying safe and healthy.

Having healthy and safety-conscious employees is important to reduce health care costs, workers' comp costs and maintain a strong bottom line. Plus, safe and healthy employees perform better, have less sick days and are generally satisfied with their lives at work and at home. And as an extra perk for customers, you can remind them of the positive rewards that come from being safe and healthy in their daily lives, too.

And don't forget, June is National Safety Month! For more information on National Safety Month and to find safety tips, please visit National Safety Council's website.

Weaving a safety message into your promotion

Find cost-effective ways to weave a safety and a healthy message into your next promotion or event with the following ideas!

Refelective Vest #8605

For outdoor safety, a reflective vest is the perfect choice. It alerts drivers to construction workers, road crews, bicyclists and crossing guards. Even the crew that helps park cars at your local fair or festivals will appreciate this vest.

Sport Saftey Helmet #7822-M Try hosting a bicycle safety event to attract customers to your store. And give out helmets to participants to reinforce the importance of wearing a helmet. Or you can give helmets to riders who demonstrate proper bicycle safety habits throughout the day. Helmets are also important for skateboarders and rollerbladers.

When choosing a bicycle helmet, make sure it's as smooth and round as possible to prevent snagging in an accident. Helmets with "aero" tails can shove it sideways in a crash and leave your head unprotected. Source: Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute.

Safe/Ad Telephone Pad #5367

Being in such close contact with others at work can lead to the rapid spread of colds and the flu. To protect your staff (especially if they share desks) give them telephone pads with antimicrobial protection.

Each phone pad is made with AgION(TM) antimicrobial protection that inhibits the growth of bacteria, fungi and other germs. It's also a great product to have at home, so the whole family doesn't get sick.

Washing your hands is crucial for preventing the spread of germs. You should wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water aren't available, use an alcohol-based hand gel (with at least 60% alcohol). Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Heart Smart Recipe Book #6591 Here's a great incentive for encouraging heart health! You could give it to your employees when they accomplish a safety goal for the quarter or the month. It's much healthier than throwing a pizza party. Or include it as a "free with purchase" gift for customers.

Look for packages bearing the American Heart Association's heart-check mark(SM) when grocery shopping. That mark means the food is low in saturated fat and cholesterol. Source: American Heart Association.

Boo Boo Bear Cold Pack #1424 When promoting your day care facility, hospital or clinic, reusable ice packs are a great giveaway. They provide relief for pain, swelling and fevers, too. And they're great to have on hand at school for those little boo-boos.

First Aid Kit #7886

This first aid kit is small enough to fit in a purse, glove compartment or backpack. Visiting nurses can leave this with their in-home patients and parents would appreciate having it wherever they go.

This is also a great item to give to parents who are thinking about enrolling their child in your school or day care facility.

Even your local soccer coach would appreciate this kit with all the skinned knees and elbows that happen during a game.

More and more organizations are realizing the power that promotional products have. They help you promote a new business, a new location, the services you offer and more. And they're a tangible way to connect with current and prospective customers.

They always say "the proof is in the pudding" and the pudding is in the following report:

According to a study conducted for the Promotional Products Association International (PPAI); sales of promotional products were over $18 billion in 2005! Local radio advertising was at $15.6 billion, Internet advertising at $12.5 billion and Yellow Pages advertising at $15.9 billion.
