Marketing your business isn't easy,
especially on a tight budget. According to MarketingSherpa,
U.S. marketers are spending about three times as much on promotional
products as on search marketing.
Why would that be? Think about it. You can physically give a potential or existing customer an item they can use,
an item that portrays a favorable image of your organization and an item that's a lasting reminder of you.
So, here are a few ideas to help you market your
business.

Advertising your company is harder these days... newspaper subscriptions
are at an all-time low. If you have TiVo(R) or satellite radio,
you can avoid commercials. And you can download commercial-free
music with your iPod or Mp3 player.
Below are some great items (and ideas) that can help you get more
for your advertising dollars. Plus, many of these items are available
in quantities of 12 or more.
 |
Backpacks
are great for students or teachers and busy moms. And they
provide a large space for your logo.
They also make a nice gift for employees who walk or ride the train
to work.
|
Combine
a backpack with an umbrella to keep people dry. And get double the
exposure for your organization!
 |
Coolers
make nice employee appreciation gifts or customer giveaways
in the spring and summer months.
If you have an employee picnic, why not consider a cooler as
a gift to each attendee. |
For an even nicer gift, pack the cooler with a picnic lunch or soda.
And remember to pack some ice, too (fridge packs are available from
4imprint, just ask for product # 26001).
 |
Don't forget the mugs!
These days mugs are being updated with new styles, sizes (15
oz., 16 oz., 17 oz. versus the traditional 11 oz.) and colors.
Contrasting colors -- like the ones you can see here, can draw
more attention to your logo. |
To add some "pop" to your mug, tuck mints, small cookies
or miniature candy bars inside. Or for the "desk set"
fill it with pens, paper clips and sticky notes.
 |
Tote
bags are another "big" way to get your logo seen.
People take them to the gym, school, work, even shopping. And
there's no harm in giving totes to customers and then encouraging
them to use that tote in your store.
Salons, spas, even dentist offices can stuff totes with samples
and give them to clients as a gift. |
Think
about the services and products that you offer. Are there small
samples, brochures or promotional items that you can tuck inside
a tote bag and give to customers, clients and friends?

I'm mentioning luggage
tags, because I have a personal story to share about them.
In January, my husband and I went to Florida. I used some bright
orange luggage tags so we could easily identify our luggage.
When the luggage arrived in Florida, the tags were gone. It's
been awhile since we last flew, so on our departure, I asked
the airline if luggage tags were still allowed (thinking maybe
there was a new regulation against them). Luggage tags are still
allowed - and I had those things on there really tight, they
weren't coming off. So, let's just say someone really wanted
both of our luggage tags.
